About Us - A Dream Coming True

Hello Camping friends and welcome to Camping-Enroute.com

We are Tommy and Memory and here's some info of what makes us tick.

We are truly blessed with three sons, Izak, Monty and Aemelius, and two additions to the family, daughters-in-law Truida and Claire and our lovely granddaughter, Anja now 14 months old.

We are expats presently living in Doha, Qatar originally from South Africa where outdoor living is enjoyed to the fullest, thanks to abundant sunny weather.

How It Started

Years ago when our kids were tiny we could not afford expensive holidays staying in hotels. That's when our love for camping started.

But let's start at the very beginning. Our first camping trip together was way back when our eldest, and then only son was about 18 months old. We had a borrowed tent a Volkswagen Beetle and what seemed like a mountain of gear to pack into that car. And, if that wasn't enough we decided to take two nephews along as well, aged 8 and 9. Needless to say I don't know how we fitted everything... and everyone into that tiny car.

But as they say: "all's well that ends well". We made the trip down to the North coast of Natal and back and we had a great time. The only negative left from that trip is that our son still can't stand a roof rack on a car to this day.

A couple of years later we got a secondhand tent as a gift and that's when our camping excursions really started. Over the years we have gathered many happy memories of the trips all over South Africa with our three sons.

Once when camping in the Kruger National park there happened to be a big rainstorm one night. That's when we realized that our old blue tent is not watertight anymore. While we were struggling outside in pouring rain trying to tighten guy ropes, crouched under a sun umbrella in the hope of keeping some water off us our smallest kept saying in a sleepy voice "mommy it's dripping on me". Well that was the last trip with that tent.

Ever since then we had to make do with old equipment, bought some new things made many mistakes and had some marvelous times.

Even though we don't have a lot of time for camping nowadays we do hope to be able to go camping more often in the near future. A dream we have is to do an extended camping tour to different parts of Southern African continent.

More About Our Dream

We are at our happiest when spending time with our family and friends, which is not so often nowadays.

Because we miss these special times extremely and would like to be able to go back home sooner rather than later, we were looking for a way to supplement our income. That's when we came across a way to build this website.

Although we're exceptionally fond of the outdoors and camping and don't get the chance to do that often now, we decided to start a website about our favorite pastime.

We hope that in the near future we'll be able to partake in our most-loved hobby more often.

Our Secret - How to realize our dream...

When we first started we had no idea what was required to build a website. We knew nothing about keywords, content, visitors or even what html was.

Being thrown into the deep end we had to swim, but with the help of SBI however, it was easy. The Action guide gives step-by-step instructions and video's to watch over and over if need be. We still have help from the forums with friendly people always willing to help and give advice.

And now we are going from strength to strength with our dream to be financially independent, living a simpler life being realized before our eyes...

You too can build a website. We love camping, but you can do it with any hobby, ability or proficiency you have, whatever you love doing. And, you can do it in your spare time!
